4. Installing Poker Shortcuts

Current users of FT Shortcuts: If you have been using FT Shortcuts, you should now install Poker Shortcuts in a different folder. You can un-install FT Shortcuts later, if you will no longer be using it.
Current users of Poker Shortcuts: If you have an older previous version of Poker Shortcuts installed, you should NOT uninstall it first. Just install the new version over the old. Be sure to close Poker Shortcuts if it is currently running before installing a new version. If you are reverting back to an older version of the software, then you will need to un-install it first.

To Install Poker Shortcuts:

  1. Run the installation program that you downloaded.
  2. Follow the instructions in the installer program. I strongly recommend that you install the program into a folder in your Program Files folder that the program suggests.

5. Running Poker Shortcuts

Vista users: You MUST run the program as an administrator.

Vista users: Poker Shortcuts is NOT compatible with the Vista Aero theme (Aero slows down many programs and interferes with others). To turn off Aero theme:

  1. Right-click your Windows desktop and select Personalize.
  2. Click on "Window Color and Appearance. The "Appearance Settings" dialog box will appear.
  3. In the Color scheme drop-down box, choose Windows Classic, Windows Vista Basic or Windows Vista Standard, and click OK. Aero will now be turned off.

Run PokerShortcuts.exe by clicking (or double clicking) on the program name (or the shortcut icon created for this program).

6. Registering and Unlocking the Software

The current version of the software is fully functional. You do not need register or obtain any codes to unlock the software.

7. Using Your Old FT Shortcuts Settings Files

If you used the program - FT Shortcuts, you can use your settings from that program with Poker Shortcuts. There are many changes between these two programs, so you will still need to check all of the settings in Poker Shortcuts to see that they are configured the way you want. If you want to transfer your old settings used with FT Shortcuts, follow these steps:

  1. Exit out of Poker Shortcuts and FT Shortcuts.
  2. Copy the file fts.ini in the Settings folder of FT Shortcuts to the Settings folder of Poker Shortcuts. Then rename this file to PokerShortcuts.ini

8. Full Tilt Poker Lobby Configuration

If you play on Full Tilt Poker, make these changes on the Full Tilt main lobby...

  1. menu Options... verify that "Auto Center" is CHECKED.
  2. menu Options... verify that "Display Pot Total" is CHECKED.
  3. menu Options... verify that "Display Table on Action" is CHECKED.
  4. menu Options... verify that "Highlight Bet Amount" is CHECKED.
  5. menu Options... verify that "Standard Cards at all sizes" is CHECKED.
  6. menu "Options"... click on "Hand History". Make sure the the checkbox "Save My Hand Histories" is CHECKED. Also make sure that the "Hand History Language Selection" is "English".
  7. menu Languages... click on "Open Language Options... verify that "English" is checked in the column "Game Software Language Selection". The selection for Email does not matter.
  8. If you want to use your mouse wheel to control your bet size, enable this feature in the Full Tilt lobby...menu Options...Bet Slider Options...Mouse Wheel Action...Smooth

Notes:

Item 3: If you plan to use the recommended feature in Shortcuts called "Auto-Activate the next table with Pending Action" (which is located on the Table1 tab) then this item should be checked. If you don't use this feature in Shortcuts, you may leave it unchecked if you prefer.

Item 4: This is optional, but if this option is checked then it is easy to make an improper bet amount. Accidentally pressing the "Enter" key will bet the amount in the betting box.

Item 6: Poker Shortcuts reads the title bar and buttons on the table, and English is the only language that is supported.

9. Poker Stars Lobby Configuration

If you play on Poker Stars, make these changes on the Poker Stars main lobby...

  1. menu Options... click on the "Advanced Multi-Table Options" dialog box... verify that "Popup table whenever user action is required" is CHECKED.
  2. This step is optional... but if you play SnGs, you will probably want this item unchecked:
menu Options... click on the "Advanced Multi-Table Options" dialog box... verify that "Minimize main lobby when opening table" is UNCHECKED.
  3. menu Options... click on "Preferred Seat"... for each table size listed in the drop down box, set the preferred seat to be at the very bottom of the table, or the seat just to the right of the very bottom of the table (if there is not a seat centered at the very bottom of the table). Seat 1 is always the first seat to the right of the dealer's chip tray (at the top of the table), and the seats count clockwise around the table. The preferred seat on each table should be:

    1. 10 player table: Select Seat 5
    2. 9 player table: Select Seat 5
    3. 8 player table: Select Seat 4
    4. 7 player table: Select Seat 4
    5. 6 player table: Select Seat 3
    6. 4 player table: Select Seat 2
    7. 2 player table: Select Seat 1

  4. menu Language... click on "Play in"... verify that "English" is CHECKED.
  5. menu View...click on Text Size...select "Largest".
  6. menu "Options"... click on "Instant Hand History Options". Make sure the the checkbox "Save My Hands History" is CHECKED.
  7. Also in the Hand History dialog box, set the language to "English".
  8. Change the size of the Poker Stars lobby to be set to it's smallest size, by dragging on the lower right hand corner of the lobby toward the top left.

Notes:

Item 1: If you do NOT play with your tables stacked or cascaded, you may want to leave this item unchecked.

10. Setting the Table and Lobby Themes in Poker Shortcuts

Poker Shortcuts needs to know the lobby and table themes you are using for your poker software. Go to the Setup tab on the Poker Shortcuts....

  1. Full Tilt Lobby Theme. There is only one available, and FTLobbyClassic should be selected for you.
  2. Full Tilt Table Theme. There are currently four possible table themes: Classic and Racetrack, with and without avatars. Select the table theme that you use. If you ever change to a different table theme, you will also need to change this setting.
  3. Poker Stars Lobby Theme. This dropdown box shows the lobby themes that Poker Shortcuts currently supports. Select the one that you use. If you use a different lobby theme from those listed, you will need to change your Poker Stars lobby to one of the supported themes in Shortcuts. To change the Poker Stars lobby theme, go to the lobby...select the "View" menu item...select "Lobby Themes". In the dialog box that comes up, select one of the themes that Poker Shortcuts supports.
  4. Poker Stars Table Theme. This dropdown box shows the table themes that Poker Shortcuts currently supports. Select the one that you use. If you use a different table theme from those listed, you will need to change your Poker Stars table theme to one of the supported themes in Shortcuts. To change the Poker Stars table theme, go to the lobby...select the "View" menu item...select "Table Themes". In the dialog box that comes up, select one of the themes that Poker Shortcuts supports.

Table Backgrounds (Full Tilt Only)

  1. Full Tilt Only: For Classic table theme, the "Beach Scene" and the "Jungle" table backgrounds can cause problems for Shortcuts at some table sizes. The color of the empty seats vary widely. We recommend not using these two backgrounds (you select these by right clicking on the table).
  2. Full Tilt Only: For Racetrack table theme, the "Marble" table background can cause problems for Shortcuts at some table sizes. We recommend not using this background (you select these by right clicking on the table).

11. Setting the Folder Locations

Poker Shortcuts needs to know the location of several folders that are associated with your poker software. Go to the Setup tab on the Poker Shortcuts....

  1. Poker Stars Settings Folder: Poker Shortcuts tries to automatically find this folder for you, and it may be filled in correctly already, but you should confirm that the correct folder is listed. This is the folder that Poker Stars uses to save the user.ini file. To find this folder location, go the the Poker Stars lobby...click on menu item "Help"...click on "Open My Settings Folder". You will need to remember this folder location, and then browse to it by clicking on the "Poker Starts Setting Folder" button in Poker Shortcuts. The folder location is usually:
    Vista users: C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Local\Pokerstars
    XP users: C:\Program Files\Poker Stars
where xxxxxx is your user name on your computer.

  2. Poker Stars Hand History Folder: This is the folder where your hand histories are saved. Verify that the folder is correctly listed, and if it isn't follow these steps:

To find the location of your hand histories,
    1. In the lobby, click on menu "Options"... click on "Instant Hand History Options".
    2. If you have not already, choose a folder where you want to save your hand histories, or just use the default given.
    3. Highlight the entire path to your hand histories (by dragging with your mouse), and copy it to the clipboard (Control-C).

    Now back in Poker Shortcuts...
    1. Paste the hand history path into the Folder Location box for the Poker Stars HH Folder (Control-V).
    2. Click on the button "Poker Stars HH Folder" and browse to the folder where YOUR USERNAME hand histories are saved. The folder you select should end with your username that you use on Poker Stars. If your user name does not show up in the hand history folder, you will need to play a few hands on Poker Stars so that a few hand histories are saved to folder which has the same name as your username on Poker Stars.

  3. Full Tilt Hand History Folder: This is the folder where your hand histories are saved. Verify that the folder is correctly listed, and if it isn't follow these steps:

To find the location of your hand histories...
    1. go to the Full Tilt lobby... click on "Options"... and click on "Hand History".
    2. If you have not already, choose a folder where you want to save your hand histories, or just use the default given.
    3. Highlight the entire path to your hand histories (by dragging with your mouse), and copy it to the clipboard (Control-C).

    Now back in Poker Shortcuts...
    1. Paste the path into the Folder Location box for the Full Tilt HH Folder (Control-V).
    2. Then click on the button "Full Tilt HH Folder" and browse to the folder where YOUR USERNAME hand histories are saved. The folder you select should end with your username that you use on Full Tilt. If your user name does not show up in the hand history folder, you will need to play a few hands on Full Tilt so that a few hand histories are saved to folder which has the same name as your username on Full Tilt.
Note: The folder you choose for the hand histories should end with your username. For example, it may look something like:

Windows XP:
c:\Program Files\Full Tilt Poker\HandHistory\YourFullTiltUserNameHere
c:\Program Files\Poker Stars\HandHistory\YourPokerStarsUserNameHere

Windows Vista:
c:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local\HandHistory\YourFullTiltUserNameHere
c:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local\Poker Stars\HandHistories\YourPokerStarsUserNameHere

12. Poker Stars user.ini file Configuration

If you play on Poker Stars, Poker Shortcuts needs to modify the Poker Stars user.ini file in order for tables to be resized correctly. To modify this file:

  1. Exit Poker Stars.
  2. Be sure that you have correctly entered the "Poker Stars Setting Folder" location (as set above).
  3. On the Setup tab in Poker Shortcuts, click on the button labeled "Modify Poker Stars user.ini file".
  4. You will see a message box if the operation was performed successfully.

Notes: This procedure will add the following line to the user.ini file (in the Options section):
f5redrawtable=1

13. Calibrating to the Color of your Table Felt

This program looks at the color of the table to see if there are board cards present, which is used to determine what "street" the action is at. When you first use this program, OR when you change the color of the table felt OR if you change a table theme, you must configure this software to the new colors of the table. This color information is saved with the Table Theme, so if you switch to a theme that you have used in the past (on the Setup tab), your previously calibrated colors will be saved for you.

Poker Stars Felt Color Calibration

  1. Go to the "Calib" tab on the Poker Shortcuts program.
  2. Open one (and only one) Poker Stars table. An empty table is preferable.
  3. When there are no board cards present, click on the "Calibrate Felt Colors - Poker Stars" button on the Calib tab.
  4. You should see the color of the table felt appear in the 4 colored boxes on the "Calib" tab next to the button.
  5. Repeat the process if you did not capture the table colors without any board cards present.

Full Tilt Felt Color Calibration

  1. Go to the "Calib" tab on the Poker Shortcuts program.
  2. Open one (and only one) Full Tilt table. An empty table is preferable.
  3. When there are no board cards present, click on the "Calibrate Felt Colors - Full Tilt" button on the Calib tab.
  4. You should see the color of the table felt appear in the 4 colored boxes on the "Calib" tab next to the button.
  5. Repeat the process if you did not capture the table colors without any board cards present.

14. Calibrating Empty Seat Colors - Full Tilt Only

On Full Tilt tables, this program looks at the color of the seats to see if a player is seated or not. This is used to count the number of seats at the table, and the number of players at the table. When you first use this software, OR whenever you change to a different table theme, OR whenever you change to a different background color of the table, you will need to calibrate the software to these new colors. This color information is saved with the Table Theme, so if you switch to a theme that you have used in the past (on the Setup tab), your previously calibrated colors will be saved for you.

Full Tilt Empty Seat Color Calibration:

  1. Go to the "Calib" tab on the Poker Shortcuts program.
  2. Open one (and only one) EMPTY "9 seat" Full Tilt table. AN EMPTY TABLE IS REQUIRED!
  3. Click on the "Calibrate 9 seat table - Full Tilt" button on the Calib tab.
  4. You should see the color of the seats appear in the colored boxes on the "Calib" tab next to the button. The colors of each seat will usually be of varying shades of the same color.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 above for the other 3 table sizes, just changing the type of table you open depending on the number of seats specified.

15. Selecting Window's Font Property

Many features in Shortcuts use image recognition to read information off of the table and lobby. Your Windows Font Property must be set on "ClearType". To do this, follow these steps:

Good work! You are done with Installation and Configuration!

Now, return to the Getting Started page to start using the software.
